Welcome to our website!
Please note that the
WEED LISTS button (included in the list on the left) opens the door to all the weeds information contained in this website.

This website is designed to provide landholders with basic information on identification and control of noxious and other environmentally undesirable weeds found throughout inland New South Wales, Australia.

While much of the content is generic to many parts of eastern Australia, it particularly deals with weeds found within that part of New South Wales covered by the Northern Inland Weeds Advisory Committee (NIWAC) i.e the Shires of Armidale-Dumaresq, Glen Innes Severn, Gunnedah, Guyra, Gwydir, Inverell, Liverpool Plains, Moree Plains, Narrabri, Tamworth Regional, Tenterfield, Uralla and Walcha.

This website provides contacts to council weeds officers employed by the above councils.  These experienced officers undertake property inspections, provide advice on weed control and in some cases operate a contract weed spraying service (see Services).  This website is also building a list of private spray contractors available throughout the NIWAC region.

For local information on local weeds start from the WEED LISTS page. If that doesn't help, try the SEARCH page.  If you still can't find what you're looking for, ring your local weeds officer or email the webmaster!

Our Mission

The importance of noxious weed control: Weeds pose a serious threat to human and animal health, to primary production and to our natural environment.  Weeds reduce farm productivity, displace native species and contribute to on-going land degradation and reduced land values.  (Photo here shows cattle dead from eating a noxious weed)

Many land holders do care about weeds, and include weed control programs in their property management plans.  Unfortunately, there are others who do not have the resources or the will to maintain their properties as they should.

Land managers aren't necessarily expected to keep their properties completely free of noxious weeds (unless it's a CC1 or CC2 weed of course!).  They are, however, expected to take reasonable measures to keep weeds under control.  Those who do nothing are letting themselves and their neighbours down!  They are also liable to prosecution under the Noxious Weeds Act 1993.
