African lovegrass (Eragrostis curvula) is widespread throughout northern inland New South Wales.  Its very efficient method of seed dispersal is ensuring that it will continue to spread.

CONTROL METHODS

According to NSW Department of Primary Industries’ excellent booklet “Noxious and Environmental Weed Control Handbook 2004/2005”, treatments include:

PASTURE IMPROVEMENT and proper management will assist with control of African lovegrass. Minimal soil disturbance required.

HERBICIDES – herbicide treatments include:

1.0 L in 100 L of water                Apply to actively growing plants. Re-treat and/or pasture improve to restrict re-establishment.

IMPORTANT:  USE OF PESTICIDES – ALWAYS READ THE LABEL
Pesticides must only be used for the purpose for which they are registered and must not be used in any other situation or in any manner contrary to the directions on the label.  Never use a herbicide in any way contrary to the label recommendations.
